Ice Storm

If any of you know me, you know that I love weather drama. There is just something about the excitement around potential storms, the way everyone starts gathering around the water cooler (so to speak) to talk about it, etc, that just gets me super excited. Well, I asked for weather drama, and boy did I get my fair share of it!

Last Sunday night, a snow "storm" came through Atlanta and brought us 4-5" of snow, and now 5 days later we are still dealing with large amounts of ice around the city. Thankfully, tomorrow will be the first day it reaches above freezing for more than an hour and all remaining ice is expected to melt. On top of that, tomorrow will be my first real work day in a week!

Despite being housebound for several days, I managed to get an extra 3 days of vacation time at home - best of all, with Katie! During the days, it was primarily just the two of us and we had a really good time playing around the house. I had to get a little creative with our activities...hence, the "spoon game".

Katie's First REAL Snow Day!

Welcome to the Snowstorm of 2011!! We have had quite the 24 hours here in the Atlanta area - 4-5" of snow - something the South is not accustomed to! Last night, around 9, it started to snow and by early this morning we had just over 4" on our back deck. Some areas nearby had closer to 6-6.5" of snow! Unfortunately, the sleet moved in and the top layer of snow quickly turned to ice.

We were stuck inside pretty much all day, with the exception of a walk the three of us took up to the Market Village area. So fun to get out, walk down the middle of the road (everything was closed down), and get Katie in the snow.

She wasn't a huge fan - it was more her speed to sit in the stroller and just look at it instead! Hopefully next year she will want to get out and play for a little bit.

On the mend?

The little crazy monkey woke up this morning looking 1,000 times better than she did yesterday AM! Not only that, but she just kept laughing. And laughing. And laughing. I honestly think she was laughing because of her raspy voice, and it was funny to her.

Needless to say, I felt a as though normalcy was starting to return to our lives again. Quite frankly, there is no better feeling.

Double Ear Infection, Canker Sores, Teething....OH MY!

I swear, I only post when it's high-drama time in the Smyrna household. It's not intentional...probably just my way of venting! It turns out that teething wasn't the only thing bothering Katie. After being up and down, up and down, up and down ALL NIGHT LONG (which equated to me not getting to sleep until 5:30 am), we learned that she has the beginning stages of a double ear infection! I guess that explains why she didn't want to lay down for long periods of time. On top of that, she has a cluster of canker sores on the bottom of her tongue. This is apparently caused by a chemical imbalance in the mouth when infection is present. In other words, she is a complete wreck.

So far, she has been asleep for an hour and 25 minutes, and has only woken up once. Thankfully, she just sat up, messed with her blanket and went back to sleep. I'm fully expecting to get up several times tonight...so, I should probably hit the hay.

I just want our little monkey to feel better, and SOON.

For tonight, I will leave you with a photo that was taken of her over the weekend at the Smyrna New Year's Eve festival for kids!

Molars = No Fun

We spent a good part of Christmas week with Katie not feeling well. Low-grade temperature, runny nose, bad breath, irritable and tired. I was convinced it was teething, but then started to question myself thinking it was possibly something along the lines of a virus. It wasn't until we got home and I felt the corners of two different molars, I realized I was right. I've always heard/read that the worst part of teething is just before the teeth actually make their appearance, so it all made sense.

Well, it's a week later and we are going through the same thing all over again. These molars I guess are going to take a while, given their size. So, tomorrow, I am hoping to load her up on some meds and she starts to feel a bit better. Getting teeth is HARD work.

This is how she spent most of her day...with her Grandmother.

Happy New Year!

New Year's Resolution: Blog more. For real this time.

Here's the little 13.5-month-old munchkin eating her gourmet New Year's Day dinner: Pizza Hut. She devoured it. Oh, and you always have to look French while eating pizza! ;)
