Katie's First REAL Snow Day!

Welcome to the Snowstorm of 2011!! We have had quite the 24 hours here in the Atlanta area - 4-5" of snow - something the South is not accustomed to! Last night, around 9, it started to snow and by early this morning we had just over 4" on our back deck. Some areas nearby had closer to 6-6.5" of snow! Unfortunately, the sleet moved in and the top layer of snow quickly turned to ice.

We were stuck inside pretty much all day, with the exception of a walk the three of us took up to the Market Village area. So fun to get out, walk down the middle of the road (everything was closed down), and get Katie in the snow.

She wasn't a huge fan - it was more her speed to sit in the stroller and just look at it instead! Hopefully next year she will want to get out and play for a little bit.

On the mend?

The little crazy monkey woke up this morning looking 1,000 times better than she did yesterday AM! Not only that, but she just kept laughing. And laughing. And laughing. I honestly think she was laughing because of her raspy voice, and it was funny to her.

Needless to say, I felt a as though normalcy was starting to return to our lives again. Quite frankly, there is no better feeling.

Double Ear Infection, Canker Sores, Teething....OH MY!

I swear, I only post when it's high-drama time in the Smyrna household. It's not intentional...probably just my way of venting! It turns out that teething wasn't the only thing bothering Katie. After being up and down, up and down, up and down ALL NIGHT LONG (which equated to me not getting to sleep until 5:30 am), we learned that she has the beginning stages of a double ear infection! I guess that explains why she didn't want to lay down for long periods of time. On top of that, she has a cluster of canker sores on the bottom of her tongue. This is apparently caused by a chemical imbalance in the mouth when infection is present. In other words, she is a complete wreck.

So far, she has been asleep for an hour and 25 minutes, and has only woken up once. Thankfully, she just sat up, messed with her blanket and went back to sleep. I'm fully expecting to get up several times tonight...so, I should probably hit the hay.

I just want our little monkey to feel better, and SOON.

For tonight, I will leave you with a photo that was taken of her over the weekend at the Smyrna New Year's Eve festival for kids!

Molars = No Fun

We spent a good part of Christmas week with Katie not feeling well. Low-grade temperature, runny nose, bad breath, irritable and tired. I was convinced it was teething, but then started to question myself thinking it was possibly something along the lines of a virus. It wasn't until we got home and I felt the corners of two different molars, I realized I was right. I've always heard/read that the worst part of teething is just before the teeth actually make their appearance, so it all made sense.

Well, it's a week later and we are going through the same thing all over again. These molars I guess are going to take a while, given their size. So, tomorrow, I am hoping to load her up on some meds and she starts to feel a bit better. Getting teeth is HARD work.

This is how she spent most of her day...with her Grandmother.

Happy New Year!

New Year's Resolution: Blog more. For real this time.

Here's the little 13.5-month-old munchkin eating her gourmet New Year's Day dinner: Pizza Hut. She devoured it. Oh, and you always have to look French while eating pizza! ;)

The Illness Spreads...

Well, thankfully, Miss Katie is doing 1000% better compared to this time last week. The flu seems to be gone, the runny nose has tapered off, and her good spirits are back at last. But, now I am sick. In bed. With the chills and a massive sinus headache. Turns out, I now have a "very, very, very bad sinus infection". But, this blog isn't about me, so we'll just leave it at that! :)

The good news is that Katie is on the mend, her Grandmother, Aunt and an Uncle are coming to visit in two days for Thanksgiving weekend, and her make-up birthday party is on Saturday. As long as I can get some meds in me, I should be good as new by Thanksgiving Day. And, if not, at least I have family to take care of the munchkin while I eat my turkey dinner in bed. :)

The Flu

Our poor little monkey has a case of The Flu. Apparently her birthday illness was a tad bit more than just a "virus" as the doctor stated on Monday morning. She seemed to be on the mend, attended day care the past couple of days, but then I received a call late yesterday afternoon from the Director, letting me know she had a fever of 101.8.

I picked her up, came home and she seemed to be OK - albeit a little tired. I put her to bed around 7:30 and she slept fine all night. Now, the past couple of mornings, she has been VERY snotty whenever I have gotten her out of her crib, so I was expecting another round of wiping the nose, suctioning, etc. What I wasn't expecting, however, was to walk in and discover that Katie's sheets were smeared with blood - apparently, she got a bloody nose at some point in the night/early morning. Her face had blood smeared all over it, her hair was crusty from the blood, and her sheets, mattress pad and crib rail cover were also stained.

I was HORRIFIED. Given that I saw the blood before I saw her face (she was still sort of lying down), I freaked. I started yelling. DH thought she had died. Honestly, it was a scene out of a very, very bad movie.

Just to err on the safe side, I called the doctor to see if we needed to do anything before our 8:30 appointment, but she told me no - this was perfectly normal. It's cold outside, dry inside, and a blood vessel obviously popped. She also reassured me that what I saw was a lot worse than what it really was.

I took her to the doctor an hour later, and immediately she wanted to do a flu test - sure enough, it was positive. Of course, it's too late to really treat her, so we are going to let it run its course. Thankfully, despite having a head full of snot, she is doing very well. Not too cranky.

Is the week over yet?
